Comfort, Safety, and Efficiency

Products & Services

Step 1: Energy Audit or Home Evaluation

We like to kick off any project by conducting a formal home energy audit or an informal home evaluation. This is essential for a few reasons. The evaluations allow us to take a closer look at the issue you want resolved -- in the same way that you would have an x-ray or MRI before having surgery. You may have one hot room and contact us to put in an air conditioning unit, but, through our tests and evaluations, we might find that the root of your problem is poor air sealing or insulation. By upgrading your insulation and air sealing we increase comfort and efficiency throughout your whole home and save you money by not installing an energy-sucking air conditioner you didn’t need.

Step 2: Home Performance Upgrades

Home performance improvements come in many forms and what we prescribe for your home depends on what our energy audit tells us. However, we have listed our core products and services below. If you would like to read more about any of the services, visit their associated subpage:

LED and CFL Lighting

Light Emitting Diode and Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs last at least 6 times as long as traditional incandescent bulbs. Additionally, they use less than ⅓ the the energy needed to light an incandescent bulb. With electric lighting accounting for 25% of a home’s energy cost on average, you could be saving 16% on your energy bills by switching all your bulbs to these newer, more efficient bulbs.

Attic and Wall Insulation

We mainly use four types of insulation to upgrade your home’s thermal barriers, while paying specific attention to your attic, walls and crawlspaces. The four main insulations we use are:

  • Blown In Fiberglass from Owens Corning
  • Blown In Cellulose
  • Blown In Denim
  • Spray Foam, both Closed Cell and Open Cell

Attic Hatches and Stairs

An attic hatch or staircase can be a leading cause of wasted energy if not properly addressed with air sealing and insulation measures. Expensive heated or air conditioned air will escape up into your attic, decreasing your comfort and increasing your energy bill.

Weather Stripping and Caulking

Also known as air sealing or weatherization, weather stripping and caulking in drafty, leaky areas of your home can vastly improve your comfort and is a low cost way to reduce your energy costs. We can identify areas where this treatment is need and either make the improvements ourselves or leave the work to you.

Programmable and Web Based Thermostats

Being able to adjust your thermostat from anywhere at any time is about more than just convenience. Zoning your home through smart thermostats and programming them to fit your schedule improves in home comfort and cuts down on wasted energy.

Infrared Testing and Imaging of Your Home

Next to air sealing, your home’s thermal barrier, the barrier between your lived in spaces and outdoor spaces, is the first thing you should upgrade when looking to improve your home’s comfort and efficiency. We evaluate your home’s insulation profile through infrared imaging to determine where weaknesses exist and how to turn them into strengths for your home’s heating, cooling and comfort system.

Blower Door and Duct Testing

Similar to infrared testing, blower door and duct tests assess the state of air sealing throughout your home and help us determine what needs to be done to take control of your air flow. We pressurize your home, measure how much air is leaking out per hour and identify the source of those leaks.

Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump

After your home has been sealed and insulated, the most efficient method of enhancing zone specific comfort and climate control is to install a ductless heat pump system. These systems operate at a lower cost than an air conditioning unit and can heat and cool to provide year round comfort!

Step 3: Enjoy the Comfort and Efficiency

When we’re done with your home, you should either be experiencing increased comfort in efficiency or have a clear road map of what needs to be done to increase your comfort and efficiency. We’ll never suggest any services you don’t need and will never push you to buy anything you don’t want.
